Contact Mike directly:
When longing day rolls over sky
To weary sun-stepped thirsty corn
And scorch of earth from summer blast
Makes prickle gorse a rampant thorn.
When binding reed with feathered blade
Flow, whispered long, by gliding shore
And sleeping scythe betrays the task
Unkeen to work the heap in store.
When pebble-skimmed on lapping sound
The schooning gull strikes off the quay
And colours flag in cradle calm
From cover of the yawning sea.
When berry-rich and mossy dressed
The brindled wood stirs knotted girth
And straggle-cared in shadow cast
Go, silent soft, the fawny herd.
When lovers swish and bonny trance
In linen twirl, the brooming path
Lain easy down in nestling ground
Throw scattered seeds upon the flax.
Then chiming winds call swift away
Through mourning hills caressed in light
And tell of dreams to aching stars
That kiss the moon and gentle sigh.
Born Manchester, England.
Started playing acoustic guitar age 13, listenin to Jimmy Reed, Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, Dylan, John Lee Hooker, all those singer guitarists in early 60's.
Blown away by Dylan's electric set in 1966 at Free Trade Hall, Manchester (the Judas gig!). Took up electric guitar (Watkins Rapier was the first one, then Fender Telecaster).
Met Jimmy Hendrix at gig in Stockport, 1967 (Tabernacle Club opposite Strawberry Studios). He dedicated and played 'Like a Rolling Stone' for us on the night cos I was talkin to him bout Dylan before the gig; "Yeah he's fine, saw him in Greenwich Village recently" (after the motorcycle accident)
Shared bedsit and double bed with Martin Hannett, Ladybarn Road, Fallowfield. 1969. Playing music 24/7.
Met Captain Beefheart in George's Hotel, Liverpool, when they played Liverpool Stadium, 1970. Shared bottle of brandy and gave him a clockwork toy mouse. He showed it on stage later "This meece is the mostest!" Got stoned with Roy Estrada in hotel room after gig.
Played solo gig at Free Trade Hall supporting AC/DC, 1971. My Telecaster and Fender combo powered through their P.A system. Yep! Blasted volume at 2,000 watts. Crowd very hostile and lasted 15 minutes but made more money from coins thrown at me than I got paid for the gig (about a tenner).
Loads of others I met too numerous to mention, but Nico was a real diva "I feel like I stepped out of an oil painting." Loved her to bits. Did tours of England, Europe and USA wiv her.
Got my own band now, varies between 3 and 12 piece - latest CD 'By the Wayside'.
Love to Y'all. Keep on truckin Mama. See ya!
